The PBA and the people behind it

This year’s Philippine Blog Awards (2008) is so controversial, it only needs a Lolit Solis, Ruffa and Gabby to play their parts to be able to top the MMFF scam. People have a lot say about this year’s Blog Awards.

One of them is that the organizers aren’t prepared for the event and that they should have never pushed through with it because it was a half-baked project. I did not attend and I wasn’t a part of the PBA last year, so I can’t really tell which one is more half-baked. Yes, there are a lot of kinks the organizers need to iron out, but I hope you don’t discount the people who did not eat and did not sleep to make this event possible.

I also believe that when you do a project, you should never do it half-baked. But, from what I have seen, the organizers would have become living zombies if they pushed themselves more, just to, say, appease people by explaining why the nominees have to submit five of their best posts or to look for a bigger venue three days before the event because Esplanade decided to rent almost half of the space for a video shoot.

I’d rather have a Philippine Blog Awards with a lot of kinks than having no blog awards at all – that amidst traditional media, bloggers are also given recognition for the passion and work that they have put into their blogs – with or without monetary compensation.

The thing is – you lot, the people who callously say that the PBA is all junk, you were never there thinking about how to get sponsors, how you would pay for things when a sponsor backs out, how to perfectly execute things on the event itself when you were just given a laptop with failing RAM to play tons of videos, when and who to trust to have things run smoothly and the people who so passionately shared their talents to make the Blog Awards fitting to attach the word “Philippine” to its name.

What am I trying to say exactly? I’m saying, let’s GIVE THEM A FUCKIN’ BREAK and let’s help them do better next year by volunteering.

i was there last year and i can safely say that this year is more awesome than last year’s. let them blab away, inggit lang sila.

  • noemi

thanks so much for your help Poyt.

  • P0ytee

Noreen, uy first comment! Thanks for that, I also heard the same from Markku and Shari – that this year is definitely better than last year’s PBA. :)

Noemi, I think we all did our best and hoped that we came up with the award that is deserving of its name. I know that the volunteer’s sleepless nights were fueled knowing that what they were doing is for Filipino bloggers and the blogging community.

  • Andrew

Half-baked? All I heard were praises upon praises. Let them talk all they want. Pffft ano sila sikat? Nyak. :P

  • the jester-in-exile

poytskee, i’m sure that the blogging community at large appreciates all your effort.

    i know i do.

  • Jeric Peña

    Very well said, Poyt!

Biyatch Galore? Ok isusugal ko na ang life ko for this lolz

Bitter lang kasi sila 1) Because di sila nominated, 2)Nominated sila pero wala sa finalist at 3)Problemado sila masyado sa ibang bagay bagay sa PBA lolz 4)fninalist pero di nanalo 5)Or….what four?

Basta all I can say is people should appreciate everyone’s effort..try nila gumawa ng badet edition pfft!

  • P0ytee

Andrew, sikat daw sila, sa ibang dimensyon! LOL! Too bad you guys weren’t able to attend the event.

  • P0ytee

Jester, huy ano ba, not just my efforts, sa lahat rin ng volunteers. I was lucky I was able to sleep pa, the others spent the whole night working. :D Pero thanks! I have a cool photo of you raising your jester hat on stage.

L.A., isusugal daw eh wala ka namang link! Ako na ang gagawa ng badet edition! Puro badet lang ang mananalo! LOL!

  • billycoy

it doesn’t really matter if the event was half-baked or not, we all saw the efforts done by the organizers and volunteers.

    kudos to y’all!

  • joyfulchicken

Hmm, who are the whiners? I missed the event, but I’ve only heard good things about it so far.

  • Maria "Ria" Jose

Go, go, go sa badet edition!

Congratulations pa rin to the organizers and sponsors! :-)

  • bleue

hehe, nakipagaway ako sa chatroom ng livestream habang nanonood, dahil ang daming bitter at maeepal. anyway, congrats sa PBA 2008, to all the winners, nominees, and all the people behind it!

  • Marcelle

If any haters are wondering why we’re pissed off over your whining, try giving your best effort, your heart and soul, into something, only to be told that “it sucks”.

If it’s a pleasant experience for you, then I apologize. We are human beings, unlike you, o ascetic ones. We do like to feel that our efforts mean something, and mean enough to not be thrashed by ignorant, uninformed speculations.

Like I tell those who complain about the government but DID NOT VOTE, you ceded the right to complain when you didn’t do your part.

If you want to be “indie” and away from the “clique” (whatever the eff that may be), then good for you.

But that doesn’t give you the right to look down and antagonize the people who want to show solidarity with the Philippine Blog Awards. I mean, HOW DARE WE want to give due recognition to Filipino bloggers, right?

  • P0ytee

Billycoy, apir! Malakas sila tumalak kasi wala naman sila don. :D

Joyfulchicken, sign up at plurk so you’ll be updated with chismis! I don’t want to pollute my blog with links to their website. :)

Ria, thanks, I hope you guys will be able to attend next year’s PBA. Haha. Go badet!

Haha.

  • P0ytee

Marcelle is very angry and has made a mega post answering all the whiners. :D

  • umleo23

Gawd! Sabi ng iba, its not okay to just say nothing even though you have noticed something wrong. Kaya ayan ang dameng putak ng putak!

For me, its not a matter of seeing what is wrong! But to see the good things sa isang bagay! Well they should be! Everybody should just be happy for other people!

CRAB MENTALITY! HINDI CYA MAGANDA BAT CYA NANALO? LATE CYA NAGPASA BAT CYA NANALO? DAPAT SI GANYAN ANG NANALO! TARA HILAHIN NATIN PABABA SI VOICE OVER!

and it’s better to shut up na lang kung wala kang magandang sasabihin.

  • P0ytee

Umleo, I think that this has left the whole blogosphere polarized but what’s wrong is that people tend to criticize but in a non-constructive sort of way. There are posts that are very constructive but some of the people who I’ve read complain about the PBA never really named names. Cool ka lang, if you don’t have anything nice to say, you can still say it but pwede namang in a nice way.

What irks me is that people say that the organizers are not considering their complaints. Would you consider complaints that have, as Marcelle said, no leg to stand on and especially when they are said with crass?

  • Rick

  • Rommel

    Amen to that post! :)
